Kids nowadays are introduced to computers earlier and earlier in life. From toddlers on tablets to elementary school students using computers in the classroom, kids' exposure to computers is inevitable. And of course, despite many parents' concerns, what goes hand in hand with computers but video games.
But do kids ever wonder how all these applications they use work? Do they know what actually happens behind the scenes? Most people (not just kids) don't.

But do kids ever wonder how all these applications they use work? Do they know what actually happens behind the scenes? Most people (not just kids) don't.
UnderstandCoding.com is a program to teach potential future software engineers about computer programming. Through hands-on exercises, students will learn the basics of coding and how the applications and games that they use and play with everyday are actually created.
The curriculum is designed for kids in 5th grade and up. It breaks down software principles into easily followable concepts, such as different types of programming languages, how computers process commands, and different forms of user input and output. As a result, students will acquire an understanding of the core fundamentals of computer science. This will establish a solid foundation for any future computer-related studies in their future.

Students will be initiated into programming using the introductory language LOGO.

From there, they will be gradually transitioned to real-world programming using JavaScript.

No special equipment or downloads are required. All students need is a computer with a browser.

As students progress, advanced topics such as client-server applications and databases will be introduced.
